Fall Flowers in Santa Clarita: What to Order Now

Terracotta dahlias, bronze chrysanthemums, and dried textures — the autumn palette that works in our valley, and how early to book for the season's celebrations.
What September and October actually bring
Our autumn is not New England's. While the rest of the country leans into burnt orange, the Santa Clarita fall palette works best in terracotta, bronze, copper, dusty rose, and cream — colors that sit beautifully in our warm, slanting light without fighting the still-green landscape.
The stars of the season are dahlias at their absolute peak, garden chrysanthemums in their refined varieties, amaranth, celosia, and the first dried grasses and seed pods. Standard roses stay available year-round, but autumn is when their deeper tones — coffee, terracotta, burgundy — are at their best value.
Designing for early fall heat
September in the SCV is still a summer month in disguise. Afternoon temperatures regularly reach the nineties, so outdoor events early in the season need the same discipline as August: heat-tolerant varieties, overnight conditioning, and late-day installation.
By mid-October the constraint flips — cool nights and dry wind replace heat, which is gentler on blooms but hard on hydration. Mist delicate petals before guests arrive rather than drenching them at setup.
The events that book the season
October is our second wedding peak after spring, and Thanksgiving centerpieces, harvest dinners, and fall baby showers fill the weeks around it. If you are planning a fall event in Valencia, Newhall, or anywhere in the valley, treat four weeks as a minimum lead time and eight weeks as comfortable for anything with installations.
For Thanksgiving tables specifically, order the weekend before at the latest. The Monday and Tuesday before the holiday are the busiest delivery days of our autumn.
Bringing autumn indoors
At home, a fall arrangement earns its keep for ten days or more because the season's stems are naturally sturdy. Combine three dahlias, a few stems of bronze chrysanthemum, and one branch of dried grass or eucalyptus, and you have something that feels composed without any technique at all.
